NHS Quizbowl Team

Quizbowl is a game in which two teams compete head-to-head to answer questions from all areas of knowledge including history, literature, science, fine arts, current events, popular culture, sports, and more. We compete in a local league with other high schools and have matches in the fall on Mondays after school. We also participate in occasional tournaments. Practice runs year-long.

Tabletop RPG Club

For students in good academic standing, Tabletop RPGClub is a place to play or introduce yourself to the hobby. For our club, ‘tabletop role playing games’ includes well known properties like, Dungeons and Dragons, Star Wars, Warhammer, etc. No experience necessary! Come participate in collective story-telling, stretch your imagination, create worlds and characters, and roll some dice!

SADD Club (Students Against Destructive Decisions)

SADD club focuses on teaching students about the negative affect of vaping and tobacco use. We have a focus on Organ Donation Awareness where we help educate people about the need of Organ Donation. The club encourages students to wear seatbelts and to drive without distraction or impairment. Anyone interested in the medical field, education and public health are encouraged to become a member.

We function as the student government for the high school. We plan anything from spirit weeks to home-coming to a "Student-Teacher Talent Show". If you would like to be a part of planning these major events, please consider joining Student Senate! 

Varsity Club

Varsity Club members will engage in activities that pro-mote athletics, camaraderie, and being a positive role
model within our community. Membership also helps student athletes engage in future employment opportunities in collegiate and professional sports. This club helps athletes understand the commitment and talent it takes to play in Division I, II, III and college club sports. Any current high school athlete who has earned at least 1 Varsity letter or 2 JV letters in any sport can be a member. Within the first month of a new school year, an athlete can sign up for Varsity Club if they are currently a member of a NHS athletic team and have the 1 Varsity letter or 2 JV letters from the previous school year. The student athlete will be informed when the meetings are after the application has been approved.

Bobcat Book Club

Meeting Times: Varies – 4-6 times throughout the school year. Meetings are usually on Fridays at 7:00 a.m. (We are a flexible group.)
Meeting Location: High School Library

Book Clubbers read student chosen books and have snacks when we meet for discussions. The discussions
revolve around enjoyment of the book, how we felt, re-acted, etc. We do not analyze writing. Book Club is open
to all and at any time (open enrollment) during theschool year. There is no cost for Book Club – it is just forFUN.

Chess Club

Chess Club was mainly formed to bring students together who have a passion for the game of Chess.
Some benefits of playing Chess include better focus, improved self-awareness, and elevated creativity skills. Nothing is more fun than being able to play with your friends over a board game that builds intellect. No experience is needed to join the club as all students (and even staff members) are welcome.

Envirothon Club

Envirothon is a club that competes against other schools in the county every April on the topics of forestry, soils and land use, wild life, aquatic ecology and a current event. We meet together to study and will participate in stream studies and nature walks to improve our skills for the competition!

Fem Club

We are dedicated to creating a welcoming and inclusiveenvironment and celebrating gender diversity. We host fundraisers and events to fight period poverty and raise awareness about various issues that impact our student body. 

Friends of Rachel Club

Meeting Location: Auditorium At Northeastern High School, the Friends of Rachel Club fosters a supportive and inclusive environment within our school community. Rachel’s Closet is a resource dedicated to providing students with essential items that will help them to be successful in an academic setting. Mini-THON Club

Mini-THON club is dedicated to raising money for Four Diamonds and the fight against pediatric cancer. Members of this club will help promote awareness about pediatric cancer, organize fundraisers, and help plan forMini-THON. There is a separate homeroom for students interested in deeper involvement in the club.

NHS "Bobcat" Marching Band

Advisor: Mr. Howell
Meeting Times: Season runs May through October
Meeting Location: Band Room

The "Bobcat" Marching Band includes all Wind, Percussion,Sideline Pit, Color Guard, and Majorette students in grades 8 through 12. The band provides entertainment and school spirit at a variety of events including all Varsity football games, Band showcases, local parades and community events, and special events such as an annual visit as the featured performers at a York Revolution game. Instrumentation includes Piccolo/Flute, all Clarinets, all Saxophones, all Brass Instruments, and Pitched and Non-Pitched Percussion instruments. Additionally, students may participate in the Color Guard squad where various equipment is used for spinning, tossing, and other visual effects, or as a baton twirler in the Majorette squad.

NHS Jazz Ensemble

The NHS Jazz Ensemble is centered around performing BigBand, Blues, Swing, Ballad, and Modern Rock charts utilizing traditional jazz band instruments including all Saxophones, Trumpets, Trombones, Guitar, Bass Guitar, Piano, Drum Set, and Accessory Percussion. Often, students who play non-jazz instruments in Symphonic Band join the Jazz Ensemble on a secondary jazz instrument. The Ensemble performs at a
variety of public events in the Spring in the local and great-er York area.

NHS Brass Choir

The NHS Brass choir includes all Saxophones and Brass instruments and rehearses and performs primarily sacred and secular Christmas-themed music in churches and at public events in the Manchester/Mt. Wolf and greater York area. Experience and teacher-evaluated competency on your chosen instrument is required.

Odyssey 

Advisor: Mrs. Drenchko

Meeting Location: Choir Room

Odyssey is a select show choir. Members are selected from Concert Choir by process of audition. This group performs at two concerts throughout the year: Holiday in December and Spring in May. Odyssey also goes out into the community during the Holiday season and performs for various civic clubs, nursing homes, and organizations. In the Spring, they add choreography to their choral selections.

Tri-M Music Honor Society

This is an invitation-only group comprised of active high-achieving Music Department students in grades 10 through 12 who meet and sustain a published list of membership criteria. The Tri-M Music Honor Society is sponsored by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME). There are two required performances for initiates - one solo and one solo/small ensemble - and one required performance for returning members per school year. Community service, participation in Diversity Day, and one mandatory fundraiser are all additional conditions of membership. 

Solo/Small Ensemble Recital

Advisors: Mr. Howell, Mrs. Johnson, Mrs. Drenchko

The NHS Solo & Small Ensemble Recital is held on the finalTuesday in March and provides an opportunity for any NHS Music Department student to perform a solo or as a part of a small ensemble as a vocalist or on any instrument of their choosing. The event is open to the public and is a wonderful forum to perform on second or even third instruments alone or with friends. Students may perform multiple times during the event in different small groups or as a soloist on different instruments or vocally.

Winter Guard

The award-winning NESD Winter Guard squads combine dance, flag, sabre, and mock rifle to create a 3-4 minute show, preformed to music, for presentation at a series of competitions for the Keystone Indoor Drill Association (KIDA). Winter Guard is open to all students grades 4-12.

Math Team

The team competes in various math contests throughout the year. The competition problems are unlike what we normally see in the classroom, and we have weekly practices to learn strategies and assorted topics.

Mu Alpha Theta- Math Honor Society 

Advisor: Mrs. Fisher

Mu Alpha Theta is a nationally recognized mathematics honors society for high school students. Members of MuAlpha Theta participate in local and national mathematics competitions, offer peer tutoring, and have the opportunity to earn exclusive scholarships. To maintain membership each year, members must participate in at least one math competition, offer peer tutoring after school at least two days per semester, or raise a minimum of $35 to help fund group activities. Students in grades 10-12 are eligible to apply for entrance into Mu Alpha Theta. In order to qualify, students must maintain a math GPA of 93% or higher and an overall GPA of 90% or higher.

Model UN / Mock Trial

This group works to find diplomatic solutions to world issues. Each student has the opportunity to represent a country and work with other countries to find resolutions. The 2024-2025 school year will be a year of transition. We will continue to work on Model UN but also include Mock Trial and some US related discussions as well. Stay tuned for more details.

National Art Honor Society (NAHS) and Northeastern Art Club

This national organization was created to recognize stu-dents for their outstanding ability and interest in art.
Northeastern’s chapter magnifies the innovation, skills, and scholarship that art brings to our school and community. Students have opportunities for national recognition, scholarships, and connectivity in the society. In order to become a member students need to have at least 1 credit of art with a 90% average in art. Students must also maintain good character with an overall high school grade point average of at least 80%. Members pledge to promote art by actively participating in activities, projects, meetings, fundraisers, and community service in the arts. Students who do not meet the requirements of the national organization can still be involved as members of the art club until they meet the qualifications.

NHS Dramatics Club

NHS Dramatics is open to all students who participate in any way with any of the productions here. Whether you are on stage as an actor / actress, playing in the pit orchestra, working with lights and sound, backstage crew, ushering, helping with costumes, building the set, work-ing on the program or any other aspect of the shows, you are considered eligible to be part of this!! We usually take a Field Trip in the Spring. NHS has been well represented at Encore - The York County High School Musical Theatre Awards Program - garnering many individual and group awards over the past several years. 

NHS Stage Crew

This club is open to all students who are interested in working on stage to create scenery for plays and musicals. While working on the stage, you will learn how to design sets, work with power tools, work with non-power tools, set decoration, stage art, lighting effects, sound effects, pyrotechnics, manage the stage, run a show, move sets, and other odds and ends. All are welcome.

Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society

This organization is for students with a high interest inSocial Studies and who are looking to give back to the school and local community. Students with a minimum of a 93% Social Studies GPA, 90% overall GPA and a mini-mum of 2 credits in Social Studies are invited to join in the fall of each school year. Requirements: regular attendance at meetings, involvement in community service and fund-raising as well as other group activities.

Shakespeare Club

Shakespeare was NOT meant to be read. In this club, we’ll engage with Shakespeare’s plays through games, stage combat, dramatic readings, movies, art, and poetry. The goal is to have fun with classic works of theater.

Yearbook Club

The yearbook staff is a collaborative group of students who design and create the yearbook. Students take photos at events/activities, write the captions and copy for the book, design the pages in the book, and apply marketing strategies to sell the book. Yearbook staffers have an opportunity to showcase their skills in numerous regional, state, and national competitions.

FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America)

Advisors: Mr. Clemens, Mrs. Dellinger and Mrs. Eisenhart

Students who join FBLA have the opportunity to participate in activities that relate to college preparation, career exploration, and networking with other FBLA members across the state and nation. Members of NHS FBLA can compete at the regional and state level, will gain experience in leadership and community service, and will help run Pawmart, our school store.

La Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica

Members of the Northeastern Capítulo Puerta del Sol of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica, promise to:

  • Devote themselves to the study of the Spanish lan-guage each year in order to master it someday;
  • Promote Spanish in our school and community byactively participating in the honor society activities and projects; 
  • Remember that a language can be a strong tie between persons of differing origins, race, or religion;
  • Maintain good character with an overall high school grade point average of at least 85% and an overall Spanish average of 90%; and 
  • Promote friendship and understanding between my country and the other lands of the world.

Latinos Unidos

Latinos Unidos is a club for students of any ethnicity. Together, we embrace and learn about Latin culture, make new friends, participate in scholarship opportunities, community service, play games, and support one another. 

National German Honor Society

As a member of the Northeastern Chapter of the Delta Epsilon Phi (ΔΕΦ) National Honor Society for High School Students of German, participants promise to: Devote themselves to the study of the German language each year; Promote German in our school and community by actively participating in honor society activities and projects, including: attending the annual induction ceremony in January, providing tutoring during Academic Prep, joining the German homeroom Demonstrate good character, honor, and integrity; Maintain an overall high school grade point average of at least 85% and an overall German average of 90%; Promote friendship and under-standing between my country and the other countries around the world.

Asian Student International Club (ASIA)

Black Student Union (BSU)

The Black Student Union (BSU) strives for black excellence. We hope to not only bring awareness to social
injustice in our school but also end racial inequality in our school. Organization activities include celebrations of Black History Month and Diversity Day and events such as poetry slams, monthly meetings, fundraisers, and donation drives.
