May 2025- High School Rennovation Update

The Buildings and Grounds Committee held a focused and productive public meeting on April 22nd to review the most recent set of architectural drawings provided by Hunt E.A.S architects and design team. These updated plans represent a significant milestone in the planning process and reflect additional details pertaining to the full scope of the project.

The updated drawings include detailed layouts and design concepts that cover all major areas of the high school facility. This includes improvements to academic classrooms, technology education labs, and collaborative learning spaces that support modern teaching and learning practices as well as our extra-curricular programs. The plans also address critical infrastructure upgrades such as HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems to improve energy efficiency, comfort, and sustainability across the building.

In addition, the team included enhancements to safety and security, including redesigned entry points, improved sightlines, and updated access controls to ensure a safe environment for students, staff, and visitors. Athletic and extracurricular spaces, including the gymnasium, auditorium, and music areas, are also part of the renovation to better support student development beyond the classroom.

The committee spent time discussing both the big-picture vision and finer details to ensure that the design reflects the needs of our students and staff while also being fiscally responsible and aligned with community expectations. The feedback provided during the meeting provides information for our architects and engineers as they continue to refine the plans in preparation for the next phase of the project.

We are committed to transparency throughout this process and expect to be able to provide updates that carry any significant impact as the project progresses. We know how important this investment is for the future of our students and our community, and we appreciate your continued support and engagement.

More opportunities for public input and updates will be shared in the coming months as we move closer to finalizing the design and preparing for construction. Together, we’re building a future-ready high school that reflects the pride and promise of our community.

Thank you for being part of this exciting journey.

Preparing for the Future

In early 2024, we embarked on a comprehensive facility assessment of several district buildings. Our partners at Hunt Engineers, Architects, & Surveyors continue to engage various stakeholders as we begin the process of building a short-term and long-term needs assessment for addressing the aging school facilities. This building condition survey performed by HUNT-EAS includes a review of four elementary schools and the high school which are the oldest buildings in the district. The building condition survey will provide valuable information that allows the district to financially plan for annual projects that allows the board of school directors to be the most respectful of taxpayer dollars.

As stewards of education, wellness, and community engagement, we will begin a more focused approach related to Phase II of our capital improvement project at Northeastern High School. This endeavor is not merely about construction, it is about providing a conducive environment for both population and academic growth with a focus on student achievement. By leveraging existing capital reserve funds and a minimal tax impact, we are committed to balancing the needs of our students with that of those who fund those needs, our taxpayers.

This strategic investment isn’t just about infrastructure, it is about investing in our future. Phase II of the high school renovation project will not only optimize building utilization but also ensure a fiscally responsible approach to the preservation of our facilities. By fortifying educational environments, we reinforce student well-being and readiness for the challenges of tomorrow. Transformed spaces aren’t just classrooms, they are incubators of talentand economic development. They safeguard our community’s investment in education, ensuring that every dollar spent translates into tangible opportunities for our students and the broader community.

As we work to Build Better Bobcats...Together, we will embark on a journey toward a future where innovative learning experiences prosper, and every student is poised for success. Northeastern School District is not just a place of education; it is a promise of a brighter tomorrow.

Proposed Rennovations

Proposed renovations encompass aged and under utilized areas throughout Northeastern High School. This includes common areas like corridors, gymnasiums, libraries, and former cafeteria/kitchen spaces, all earmarked for reconfiguration to enhance the educational functionality. Additional classroom improvements include specialty areas such as our shop, special education, music, home economics, and art spaces.

Moreover, the proposed plans include upgrading aged bathrooms to meet contemporary standards and reconfiguring locker rooms to optimize educational utilization. Many of these areas currently fall short of ADA and building standards, with some spaces remaining entirely unused or not serving their intended purpose.

With educational programs and curriculum expanding, aligning these needs with our renovation endeavors is crucial. This approach aims to create an environment conducive to growth and achievement, ensuring that our facilities support the evolving requirements of our educational mission effectively.
